Career Guidance for Prospective and Current International Pilots

Career Guidance for Prospective and Current International Pilots [ CPL, CFI, ATPL  Holders]

Dear Fellow Pilot,

Wishing You a Very Happy Take Off  !

Before you take decision to become an International Airlines Pilot you must read

following dos and don't for Pilots.

We have included this section to help and explain the opportunities available to

those Trainees who continue to work towards the professional Pilot License level,

and there after how to get about with their "way forward" plans. I've also thought

it prudent to include some of the many pitfalls or setbacks that await the

financially unwary in what is otherwise a very honorable profession. Every country

has its own civil Aviation Department who manages Aviation activities. You must

make sure here we are talking about only civil Aviation industry Not defence

flying. If you are planning to become a fighter Pilot, Sorry I also can't help you

much.

Why should you become a Professional Pilot ?

- Passion
- Glamour
- Reputation
- Career
- Born Pilot [ Childhood Desire ]

Before you begin

Before you embark, it is most important that you get a assessment from your

country's "Civil Aviation Dept;" about the recognition of the license you are

hoping to get, Is the License fully recognized by your civil aviation when you

return back home., ..? Also read CAR [ Civil Aviation requirment ] throughly.

About the Airline Training Industry

Aviation worldwide is a recurring market and the industry is affected predominantly

by economics, politics and some part of the globe with acute terrorism..ect. 9/11

had a negative impact on the Airline industry, while in other regions tourism

sustained and some picked up and all the local Airlines and charter companies fared

rather well...Outside an Airline

Not all Pilots choose an Airline career. There are many other specialties just as

rewarding. Other areas available are crop spraying, although I don't recommend it

if you intend going the Airline route. Airlines prefer hiring pilots with multi-

crew, multi-engine experience from structured environments. Nevertheless – it is

well paid but obviously seasonal. Some crop sprayers alternate their work between

northern and southern hemispheres to work all year long. Possession of a

"Instructor Rating" will always assist you in gaining hours without any cost on

flying, this also help you to maintain your license currency at all times...

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has the ability to become a professional

pilot. In fact, some people shouldn't fly at all! Not because they can't fly well -

but because they can't think well! Cocky, over-confident, egocentric pilots are not

desirable and tend to be short lived in this job. The saying "there are old pilots

and bold pilots – but no old bold pilots" is true. With the responsibilities and

consequences involved, you...
One small tip – guard your reputation well! Airlines do their homework

meticulously. Internationally this is a close knit community and if you have a

reputation as a heavy drinking Casanova or a flamboyant show-off, you can rest

assured the selection board will know about it before you arrive for the interview.

Better have some answers ready!

Remuneration

Obviously this is a difficult subject to generalise on as salaries vary extensively

around the world. Crop spraying is renowned as being a well paid job but this will

be cyclically dependant on the season and whether you are prepared to work in

outlying areas and switch hemispheres as...

Truly, the sky is the limit for pilots. Initially you will be employed as a Trainee

Pilot with a CPL certificate. Further training is imparted at the respective

Airlines' training centers, where Pilots are put through rigorous technical

training on various Aircrafts Simulators of the Airline.

Most of the private air lines recruit fresh CPL holders and pay them a stipend

during the training period, which could last for four or twelve months under the

supervision on a senior pilot. The first independent job is as a Co-Pilot. Once

confirmed with the necessary endorsement, commercial pilots are paid handsomely-

between USD 20000 - 30000 annual starting salary, and generous allowances like

housing, medical and outstation allowances as well as free confessional air

passages for immediate family and dependants.

Promotion to Captain / Commander will come after about 5-10 years of service.
Provided you have clear all Tests. The captain of an Aircraft has the total

responsibility for the Aircraft, crew and passengers.

A Pilot can get a job for flying passenger and cargo flights for a domestic or

international airline. Or with organizations that maintain their own aircrafts.

With the sudden spurt in demand for Pilots, since on an average 8 to 10 pilots are

required per Aircraft, private Airlines are offering decent salaries for

experienced Pilots who have the required endorsements.

I hope my advice goes some way in helping you make a decision about your future.

Obviously all the aspects cannot be covered in such a short section so if there's

any further advice you need please feel free to contact myself. I would try my best

to help you in your career path as Professional Pilot.

Once a form is successfully submitted, Asiatic International Aviation Corp  will

requirements ( as mentioned against each course ), a PDF copy of your filled form

is sent back to you, which you need to sign and attach documents as mentioned in

the mail of successful application.

A1. A first officer is also referred to as a Co-Pilot. When a qualified

professional pilot joins an airline, he/she joins as a trainee till completion of

the type rating on the airline fleet. This type rating typically takes 6-8 months.

Upon completion, he/she flies the airplane under the command and supervision of the

Captain, functioning as an independent crewmember.

Q2. When does one become a Captain?
A2. After gaining adequate experience as a first officer and upgrading to an

Airline Transport Pilot License, one qualifies to become a Captain. Thereafter,

training of 6-8 months is required to obtain a PIC (pilot-in-command) rating for

that particular type of aircraft. It can take anything between 18 months to five

years, depending on the aircraft, the opportunity, the airline and your own effort.

Q3. What is the salary of an airline pilot?
A3. In India, the salary of an airline pilot varies with the carrier and are close

to global scales. The gross salary for a qualified First Officer range between Rs

1,35,000 per month to Rs 2,40,000 per month and for a Captain between Rs 2,50,000

and Rs 6,00,000 per month. The salary depends on the airline you fly and the number

of hours/years of service. Normally the period of transition from a First Officer

to a Captain is 3-5 years.

Q4. What are the job prospects?
A4. The job prospects in the airline industry are very bright at this point of

time. With the economy growing consistently, purchasing power is driving Indians to

fly. The importance of time over money is key to making a transition from the

railways to airlines as a primary mode of transport. Flying however is a universal

skill and once you have a few thousand hours under the belt, the world is open with

opportunities.

Q5. Does one require special skills to be a pilot?
A5. It requires a basic aptitude and good interpersonal skills to be a good

pilot. It also requires one to have reasonable basic numerical abilities, apart

from good reasoning and communication skills. A pilot's job requires working

closely with his colleagues, so good interpersonal skills are an asset.

Q6. What is a flight like for a pilot?
A6. Before a flight a pilot has certain pre-flight duties. He/she arrives at

the airport one hour before departure time and first has to sign a pre flight

medical to certify that he/she is fit to undergo the flight. This is followed by a

look at the weather and other flight information. After the pre-flight

preparations, one proceeds to the airplane for flight preparation. The heavy

workload periods are during departure and arrival. During the rest of the flight,

the airplane is flown on autopilot and the pilots basically monitor the flight

progress. A critical function of a pilot is good decision making. Decisions made

have to be knowledge based and require sound judgment.

Q7. How difficult is it to get a job in the Aviation sector?
A7. A job in the Aviation sector requires you to have the right attitude and

expectations. You must also be willing to put in some hard work - aviation is not

an industry that provides an easy path to a high paying job. You must be willing to

move to where the work is, and to accept that the industry operates 7 days a week,

365 days a year. Like any career - you cannot expect to walk straight from a

training course into the top jobs - you will need to start at the bottom and work

your way up.
